Magnetic Weight Loss Surgery is less invasive with magnetic technology

Magnetic Weight Loss Surgery offers an innovative, minimally invasive alternative for patients seeking effective bariatric solutions. Using advanced magnetic technology, laparoscopic weight loss procedures can now be performed with fewer incisions, improved visualization, and a faster recovery. At Total Wellness & Bariatrics in Plano, our team will guide you through how Magnetic Surgery® may be the right option for your weight loss journey.

How does magnetic surgery work?

Magnetic Weight Loss Surgery

Magnetic surgery is considered one of the least invasive techniques available today. Using the Levita® Magnetic Surgical System, an external magnet placed on the skin controls a magnetic grasper inside the abdomen.

This eliminates the need for one abdominal incision, improves the surgeon’s view of the surgical field, and allows for a safer, less invasive procedure with better cosmetic results.

The Levita system is designed to grasp and retract the body and fundus of the gallbladder in laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedures, the liver in bariatric surgeries, and the prostate and surrounding tissue in prostatectomy procedures. It facilitates access and visualization for patients with a BMI of 20–60 kg/m².

As with any surgery, Magnetic Surgery carries some risks, including infection, tissue or abdominal wall injury, or the need for additional surgery. In clinical trials, the only reported risk was mild bruising (petechiae).

Magnetic surgery is not recommended for patients with pacemakers, defibrillators, other electro-medical implants, or ferromagnetic implants. The Total Wellness bariatric team will review all potential benefits and risks to determine if this approach is right for you.
